Copyediting

I provide copyediting services to authors and editors for books, articles, and other materials. My goal is to help you polish your writing so that the author’s voice is clear and understandable and so that the text is free of errors. I can provide:

• Basic copyediting: This includes correcting spelling, grammar, usage, and punctuation, checking cross-references and making sure that the manuscript is consistent and accurate throughout and meets the publisher’s guidelines.
• Line editing: This includes all of the above, but also involves making significant changes to a manuscript, such as rewriting and reorganizing the text.

Editing projects are priced by the page, based on the industry standard of 250 words per page. Prices range from $4 to $6 per page for basic copyediting and up to $20 per page for line editing. The exact price depends on the type of work, the timeline and how much work is needed. I can give you an exact price after looking at a sample chapter (or a few pages for shorter works).

Indexing

You can read more about what indexing is on my what is indexing page. The rates for indexing are also per page, and as for editing, based on the standard 250 words per page. The cost generally ranges from $2 to $5 dollars per page but could be more or less. The price depends on the complexity of the work, the density (how many index entries per page) and also the timeline. I can give you an exact price after looking at a sample chapter and finding out what guidelines you may be working with.
